Fire Stick Remote Not Pairing With New Batteries (Won’t Sync)

Are you wondering why your Fire Stick remote is not pairing with the new batteries, and you don’t know how to resolve this issue?

Today, we’ll discuss why this issue bothers you and how you can fix it effortlessly.

Why is my new Fire Stick remote not pairing with new batteries?

  • The remote got unpaired after changing the batteries, and you are not pairing it correctly.
  • There might be some obstructions between your remote and the streaming stick, causing synching issues.
  • You are trying to pair the Fire Stick remote from a far away distance.
  • The Fire TV Stick device or remote is experiencing software or hardware issues.

How do I pair my Fire Stick remote after changing batteries?

1. Pair the Fire TV Stick Remote Again

It’s possible the Fire TV Stick remote got unpaired after replacing the batteries, and you haven’t synced it again. To do this:

  • Turn on the Fire Stick and wait for the home screen to appear on the TV.
  • Press & hold the Home button on the remote for about 10-20 seconds.
  • Wait for the message to appear on the TV screen confirming that the remote is paired successfully.
  • Turn the TV off and on, or try other features with the remote and see if this fixes your issue.
  • Too many Bluetooth devices are paired to your Fire Stick streaming device.

2. Use the Remote Closer to Fire Stick

Sometimes, after changing the remote’s batteries, you may think its range has increased and try to pair it from some distance. Another possibility is obstructions between your streaming stick and the remote.

For most Bluetooth-connected devices, the maximum range of connectivity is about 30 feet, given the fact that there are no obstacles in between.

Also, the Bluetooth range for Fire Stick remotes varies with the model.  Some can operate from a distance of 30 feet, while others fail when you move further than 10 feet.

Therefore, make sure to get as close as your Fire Stick and remove any obstructions before pairing the remote.

Furthermore, remove nearby devices that transmit radio signals and hinder the remote’s functionality—for example, microwaves.

3. Insert Batteries In the Correct Direction

It’s also possible you may not have placed the new batteries correctly in your Fire TV Stick remote. That’s the most common reason why it fails to work at all and won’t sync to your Fire Stick afterward.

While inserting the batteries, make sure to connect the + side of the AAA batteries to the + terminal and do the same for the (negative) terminal.

If the terminals are corroded or dirty, it can prevent the new batteries from making firm contact and passing voltages.

To fix this, take a small piece of soft cloth, dip it in an isopropyl solution, and clean the terminals with it. Next, put the batteries in and verify that the remote pairs this time!

4. Restart/Power Cycle Your Fire Stick

If the issue persists, restart or power cycle your Fire Stick in the following way:

  • Remove the Fire TV Stick from the HDMI port of your TV and unplug the power cord as well.
  • Wait 30-45 seconds.
  • Connect the streaming stick to the HDMI port of the TV and plug the power cable back in.
  • Turn on the device and wait for it to load the Home screen.
  • Try pairing the remote again and verify the fix.

TIP: If apps keep closing on your Fire Stick, restarting the device may do the trick for you!

5. Check Connection Limit

Another possibility can be that you have connected many devices to your Fire Stick, and that’s why it is not allowing you to pair another, i.e., the remote.

Your Fire Stick can connect to seven Bluetooth devices at a time. You may have paired a couple more while the remote was sitting there with weak batteries. In this case, you need to disconnect one device by doing these steps:

  • Open Fire Stick “Settings.”
  • Select “Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.”
  • Select a device to unpair (from the list) and follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Now try pairing the Fire remote again, and hopefully, it will sync now. If not, redo the above steps!

6. Reset Fire Stick Remote

Quite often, simple pairing fails to work after replacing the batteries in your Fire Stick remote. In such cases, try to reset the remote and pair again.

  • Press the left side of the navigational wheel, menu button, and back button together and hold them for 10 seconds.
  • Next, let go of these buttons and then wait another 60 seconds.
  • Pull the batteries out of the Fire Stick remote.
  • Unplug the streaming stick and wait for another 60 seconds.
  • Put the batteries back in the remote and double-check to insert them correctly.
  • Plug the Fire TV Stick back in, and wait for the Home screen to load.
  • Press & hold the Home button on the remote for 40 seconds and then wait another minute to complete the reset setup.
  • Pair the remote again as described in the above method and see if this resolves the problem!

NOTE: Resetting the remote can also fix the fast red light flashing on it.

7. Reach Out to Amazon Support

You may have damaged your Fire Stick remote while replacing the batteries. Accidental falls or exposure to wet elements during the process can easily contribute to such failures.

Therefore, reach out to Amazon customer support (they may be able to help you with unknown causes of remote malfunctions).

Also, they can suggest a replacement and provide you with one if they fail to figure out the problem.

In the meantime, you can use the Fire TV app to use your mobile phone as a remote for your Fire device. Here’s how:

  • Download the Fire TV app from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPhone).
  • Be sure to connect the phone running the Fire TV app and Fire Stick to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Open the Fire TV app (on your phone), and sign in with your Amazon credentials.
  • Turn on your TV, along with the streaming stick.
  • Choose your Fire TV Stick from the “Select a Device to Connect” menu on the Fire TV app.
  • Type in the four-digit code displayed on your TV, and you’ll be able to see a remote control on the app, meaning you can start using your phone as the Fire Stick remote.

If the Fire TV app is experiencing issues finding your Fire Stick, disconnect both your phone and streaming stick from the internet and then connect again. Now, log out of the Fire TV app, select “Setup New Device,” and log in again.

  • Use the keyboard option on the screen to open the “Settings” menu on your mobile.
  • Select “Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.”
  • Tap “Amazon Fire TV Remotes.”
  • Tap “Add New Remote.”
  • Type in the four-digit code displayed on your TV, and you’ll be able to start using your phone as the Fire Stick remote!

Why won’t my Firestick remote work after a factory reset?

After factory resetting your Fire TV Stick, you need to reset the remote as well to get it to work with the streaming device. To do this, turn on your Fire Stick, wait for the home screen to appear, press and hold the Home button for 10 seconds, and wait for the Pairing Successful message to appear on the screen.
